Norwegian Wood Vol. 1 is a novel by Haruki Murakami, first published by Kodansha in 1987 as part of a two-volume set. It was later released in Kodansha Bunko paperback in 1991, with a revised edition in 2004. Set during the late-1960s Japanese student movement, the story follows the unnamed narrator and Naoko, exploring themes of youth, love, loneliness, and loss. The novel became a major bestseller in Japan.
